Improved Psychiatric Crisis Response

There will now be two new part-time psychiatric crisis intervention-specific positions at the Rockingham-Harrisonburg Jail thanks to a $250,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Justice (DoJ). The DoJ has agreed to pay Rockingham county $250,000 for the first 18 months’ salary and expenses of a law enforcement officer with specialized training in mental health crises and a Harrisonburg-Rockingham Community Services Board mental health technician. These new staff will work weekdays, filling the gap until the CIT Psychiatric Assessment Center at RMH opens at 4pm.
